3. PROFILE OF SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

General competences:

  • master different ways of learning and take responsibility for the development of one’s own potential in a lifelong perspective;
  • understand tasks or identify the core of a problem, apply various solutions, work independently and in a team;
  • apply advanced reading literacy skills to work effectively with information and to critically evaluate and interpret texts; 
  • communicate in one foreign language at least at B1 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), and actively develop one’s own language skills;
  • apply scientific, technical, IT and mathematical knowledge, skills and procedures in practical contexts and in solving problems in various areas of life; 
  • work safely and at an advanced level with digital technologies and their software, and keep up with their development; 
  • search for, process and critically evaluate information, use algorithmic thinking, communicate and collaborate in online environments, and create digital content and models; 
  • understand the basic principles of information systems, analyse their structure and functions, design data models and adapt interfaces to user needs; 
  • be well versed in different social and value systems, as well as social, political, legal and economic processes of everyday life, and demonstrate financial and media literacy; 
  • adapt to changing social, economic and technological conditions, and make responsible economic decisions; 
  • strive for the highest quality of one’s own work, services and products in accordance with technological procedures and quality standards;  
  • choose optimal solutions in real-life work and personal situations based on the interconnection of environmental, economic and social factors;
  • observe the principles of occupational health and safety, and fire protection.

Vocational competences:

  • assess the environmental situation in a particular area;
  • analyze the impacts of human activities on the environment and assess them in terms of legislation;
  • identify illegal and undesirable effects of human activities on the environment and propose measures for their elimination;
  • promote the use of advanced technologies friendly to the environment;
  • consider, when planning and assessing, the impact of certain activities on the environment and social impacts;
  • manage principles, procedures and use of chemical, physical and microbiological laboratory methods and sensory analysis;
  • select an appropriate method of analysis, remove, and modify samples and perform analysis of individual components of the environment;
  • evaluate the results of the analysis, process the data, evaluate them and propose optimal measures;
  • carry out local inventory, compare them with data from available sources of information and draw conclusions;
  • use knowledge of ecology, biology, chemistry and other science disciplines in the performance of work, creatively apply the principles of nature protection in practice;
  • control human activities in the area of business and municipalities, comply with legal regulations and manage the basic principles of administrative proceedings;
  • propose procedures for the care of individual protected parts of nature;
  • organize work on the maintenance of protected natural areas and public green spaces;
  • design activities related to nature and landscape protection and rural development according to specific conditions;
  • promote the environmental policy and sustainable development in public.

4. RANGE OF OCCUPATIONS ACCESSIBLE TO THE HOLDER OF THE CERTIFICATE

The graduate is employed in middle management in public administration in the field of environmental, forestry and agriculture, construction administration, administrations of protected landscape areas and national parks, in the Czech Environmental Inspectorate, in the services of the Hygiene Station, in the areas of water management, environmental consultancy and training, in work activities related to monitoring and implementation of environmental controls, in companies engaged in the recultivation, care of greenery, hydro-geological research, waste management.

Examples of possible jobs: environmentalist - employee in the field of nature and landscape protection, air protection, environmental officer of public administration, hydrologist and meteorologist.
